It may be easy to blame it on the weatherman, but one brazen bug took it upon himself to take it out on him - during a live broadcast. NBC-17 meteorologist Wes Hohenstein was doing the nightly weather report on August 5 as the pesky moth flew around his face. But Mr Hohenstein was briefly unable to continue when the winged nuisance suddenly fluttered into his mouth.
Between coughs, the North Carolina weatherman said: 'I swear, a moth just flew into my throat.' He admitted that his first instinct was to slap at the insect, but decided to take what he felt was a more proper course of action. He said: 'I was going to swat it away, but I thought that would not be appropriate for TV, but I guess it’s more appropriate to swallow it.'
As someone brought over a bottle of water, Mr Hohenstein said: ‘It’s already down my belly.’
After concluding his report, Mr Hohenstein appeared eager to avoid the insect incident altogether. He said: ‘Sadly we’re out of time, so we cannot comment at all about what just happened.'
The weatherman briefly walked off camera during his live report after the insect went down his throat
But anchors wouldn’t let him off so easily, as Melanie Sanders said: 'Bugs have plenty of protein though. I mean, at least that's a positive, right?' Co-anchor Penn Holderness sarcastically added: 'The good news is, this won’t make it on YouTube, ever.’
Perhaps the moth was showing Mr Hohenstein who the new insect in town was, after he did a report on the lack of mosquitoes at a nearby wetlands a week before. Mr Hohenstein has been a member of NBC-17's Precision Weather Team since 2006.
Despite the interruption, the veteran weatherman regained his composure and finished the report
